Pupil Premium

What is Pupil Premium?

Pupil Premium funding is additional money given to schools by the government. It is designed to help disadvantaged pupils of all abilities to fulfil their potential.

Who is eligible for Pupil Premium?

Pupil Premium Funding is allocated to schools based on the number of children who are meeting pupil premium criteria:

  • Children from low-income families who are currently known to be eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) (this is not to be mistaken with the UIFSM, Universal Infant Free School Meals, that all infant school children are entitled to).
  • Children who have been eligible for FSM at any point in the last six years (known as Ever 6 FSM).
  • Children who have been "looked after" continuously for one day or more.
  • Children who are adopted from care or have Special Guardianship.

What do the schools do with the money?

We carefully identify where to best allocate Pupil Premium funding and are held accountable for how we this money to support pupils who are disadvantaged.  We publish information on our website about how we have used the funding so that parents and others are made fully aware of its impact.

Families who qualify for Pupil Premium funding can request to have all school trips and other additional school expenses paid for by the school. However if families want to contribute towards these expenses then they can pay what they feel able to.

If your child would like to take part in a school-based, after school club but they are unable to due to financial constraints, we can consider using some Pupil Premium money to fund these activities; this is subject to the availability of the club.

We encourage ALL families who feel they need further financial assistance to support their children’s education to come in and speak to the school about this.

A member is staff is allocated to all children who qualify for Pupil Premium funding. We call these staff members their ‘champions’. They meet together regularly, usually twice a week, for a short time. During this time they may read, practice times tables, or play games. The activity is bespoke to each child and varies according to need.
